Treatments
Traditional Chinese Medicine
I offer traditional acupuncture, as well as a range of different treatments.
Often, it is beneficial to have two of these treatments at the same time, e.g. acupuncture and moxibustion.
My current fee is £60.00 and treatments will usually last an hour.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points along the energy channels. This is to create harmony and balance within the body mind and spirit.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a warming treatment that enhances the effectiveness of acupuncture and strengthens the immune system. I also use it to help turn breech babies.
Herbal Medicine
Herbs will be given where appropriate to support the treatments. I often give tonics for blood, energy and immunity, for example I may give a blood tonic to an anaemic woman or a cough mixture to a person with a cold.
Cupping
Cupping is a treatment that encourages the movement of stuck Qi, for example cups may be painlessly placed on the upper back, over the lungs to move a stubborn cough or on areas of pain and stiffness.
Counselling
Counselling may, in some cases, become an integral part of your diagnosis and treatment. Acupuncture is a holistic therapy that does not separate mind from body. The therapeutic environment naturally encourages exploration of your inner world.
What happens during a treatment?
I will question you about your health and wellbeing, including your medical history. You will then undress as necessary and lie on a treatment couch under a blanket. I will perform some diagnostic tests such as taking the pulse and inspecting the tongue. Once diagnosis is complete the needles are inserted. The needles can sting as they go in but once they are all in place the experience is pain free and relaxing. When the treatment is over you will be left to dress and though relaxed you should be able to get on with your day.
People often feel energised but if you have been burning the candle at both ends, the treatment may leave you feeling inclined to have an early night. This effect can happen after the first one or
two treatments so plan to not have anything too strenuous to do afterwards. It is recommended that you do not have a heavy meal, drink alcohol or exercise vigorously on the day you have your acupuncture.
